<br><br>Iván Sánchez Ortega [OSM-es] will give a presentation tomorrow about this project. After that, we will ask for some new hardware and set up a nice box, intended to be useful to the project somehow. Our Internet link is pretty fast =)

It would be great if we could have some more details on what is exactly what you need/want/hope from us, in terms of HW requirements. Would for example a UML box with 1GB RAM and a 200GB HDD for its own be enough?

Matthew Any chance of getting an account on your server?  I have a service that provides place names for any bbox on the planet.   Its an implementation of the API, but unlike the main server it is not limited to a small area.

There was some previous discussion about using this to help t@h rendering of of names at low zoom levels (city, state, country, continent, ocean).  Essentially t@h would fetch a z12 bbox from the main server and then fetch a much larger bbox from the place-name  server.  The two files can then be combined to create a render that includes very large place names that, at z12, would span many tiles.

I've got a UML virtual machine (same idea as Bytemark but more disk/ram)
