Sebastian OJW was part of the group where we were discussing root at the main entrance.  I assumed that you knew him and so I didn't make any introductions.  Anyway, he was there and knows who you are and that you were press-ganged into having root access, so no problems there.

One thing that you should do, once you get root access, is to create a root2 account for Frederik as we discussed. I live about 25 miles from where the servers are, so if dev really does need a reboot then its possible that I could do it.  Lets get a remote console asap.

A couple of notes in random order. -I am very grateful to NickH for what he has done for the project and how he handled things. So thanks for all that. Priorities change and real life intrudes, things happen. That's OK, but I think anything will be better than now, where it takes weeks to get an account added or a server restarted. It would be nice to stay in contact though as NickH knows that machine best of all of us.

<br><br>Plans for dev<br>=============<br>It has become apparent that t@h is a de-facto part of OSM and that people love quick feedback for their rendering. So dev has effectively become a production server for t@h. I think we should acknowledge reality and act accordingly. I see 3 options:

<br>1) Keep dev and t@h on one machine. That would require significant hardware upgrades<br>2) Move t@h top its own server (at the conference there were some people offering quite powerful machines) and make dev a development server

<br>3) Make dev a t@h server and try to get a new machine to experiment with dev work (it that is deemed necessary).<br><br>I lean towards option 3 and declare dev to be a t@h server. That would mean that we should propably give dev a new name, such as, 

<a href="http://tah.osm.org">tah.osm.org</a> (tilesAtHome) or <a href="http://tia.osm.org">tia.osm.org</a> (TIlesAtosm) (suggestions welcome) and memory hogs like postgresql and other stuff which is not needed for TIA should be switched off to make dev's life a bit easier. However, that are my personal thoughts and I welcome feedback and other suggestions. Indeed, I'd like some healthy discussion surrounding these things. I also haven't talked to OJW about his needs/plans, as I unintentionally managed to not talk to him at SOTM at all, I think. So OJW and I will be having some chats before I start doing stuff, obviously.

<br><br>Currently, I don't plan to take part in the t@h server development. So I will try to enable the deployment of t@h on that box, but don't expect me to hack the request/queue/whatever thingies.<br><br>About me
