This is something I'm very interested in working on. I was planning on starting it last week but work has gotten in the way (as usual). Hopefully I can start thinking about it this weekend.

Hi,

my goal is to have a tileserver that renders tile on demand and is as up to
date as possible. I just want to serve a small area (about 0,5° x 0.5°).
I read about diffs, but I can't find any usefull information. Wiki just
tells me that there are diffs..

At the moment I download the whole area with the api and import it into
postgres with osm2pgsql (Once a day).
Where can I get the diff and how do I apply this diff on the postgres
database?

I don't think you can apply osm diffs to a mapnik postgres db. if you leave osm references intact, however it might be possible.

However you might want to have a look at the daily extracts on http://download.geofabrik.de
