Seems pretty sweet.

Even though it doesn't seem to be completely appropriate for a wizard, my first idea was a system like you describe, with user-modifiable presets, so it would fit the purpose.

I must admit when I first met OSM, I did like most and tried JOSM. I was somewhat rebuffed by its, IMHO, cumbersomeness, so I quickly sought something else, found Merkaartor, and decided to improve it (as I'm not a big fan of Java)

I will re-have a look at JOSM to see how it is implemented.

Thanks
- Chris -

2008/7/14 Frederik Ramm <frederik@remote.org>:

In the future, I plan to implement a "wizard mode" for tagging in Merkaartor, as I think that the openness of tagging might be frightening for newbies.
This wizard would be dynamic based upon the "recommended" tagging practises in the "Map Features" wiki pages.
Are you familiar with the presets that JOSM uses? They are entirely controlled through an XML file. You should really have a look at it, it is quite flexible already, and people can create their own presets (e.g. special thematic stuff) although this is rarely used. There's even a new cool way of making them multi-lingual.

Here is the big default presets file:
I think it speaks for itself (at least if speaking to a programmer). Maybe you could think about supporting this format, *or* we could come up with something different that is then supported by both editors.
