The library I have been working on is rendering tiles as a Tirex backend using OpenStreetMap data. The map is drawn using Kothic JS over top of image tiles rendered with Mapnik which show land polygons (basically the contents of the layer-shapefiles.xml.inc file in OSM's Mapnik stylesheet).<br>
