<div dir="ltr">well, I have proposed a GSoC project which includes the functionality of of all that Martin has mentioned, and much more. This would automatically take GPS traces and give you a render-able .OSM data file. The project would be capable of doing much more than just this (it takes care of cancelling useless data, mathematically called noise).<div>
So if i get to work on this project this summer, it should take care of your needs, Jingmin Chen.<br><div class="gmail_extra"><br><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 6:58 PM, Martin Koppenhoefer <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:dieterdreist@gmail.com" target="_blank">dieterdreist@gmail.com</a>></span> wrote:<br>

<div dir="ltr">Dear all,<div><br></div><div>I currently have access to 2 years, 20,000 taxi vehicles GPS trace (30sec interval) of a large city in China. The OSM data quality of that city is really bad. But uploading the raw GPS trace might have legal issues. Is it possible to process the data to roads before I upload to OSM? Thank you very much for any suggestion.</div>

</div></div><div class="gmail_extra">Did you have a look at some examples whether this is useful data (precision wise and because of the relatively low frequency)? I am not aware of the average traffic speed in this town, but in 30 seconds in many cities you could move quite "far". Another potential issue, which mappers would have to keep in mind when deriving data from these traces, is that taxis often have special traffic rules, so it is not given that any car could take the same route than a taxi could. And lastly, there might be legal issues (AFAIK mapping or registering GPS-traces is forbidden in China, at least if you intend to publish them in a foreign country, not sure whether you are operating from inside China or from abroad).</div>
