<p>Hi Michael & everyone,</p>
<p>Thank you all for the enthusiasm and answers!<br>
</p>
<p>1) Regarding putting only trees, we don't have this information
for the moment. We'll let the user know to only put trees on OSM.
<br>
</p>
<p>2) If we only go for specific prefilled tags (species,
taxon:family, source, natural) the user will need to pick the
correct location of the tree. For now, I'm only adding the button
on geolocalized owned observation. <br>
</p>
<p>3) Regarding a plant layer in OSM, I believe the best source
would be to use gbif.org. They have the most complete biodiversity
database and many apps are already pushing to it (including
iNaturalist, Pl@ntNet, etc)</p>
<p>4) Quick question regardings tags, should the authorship of the
species be put on OSM (eg: species:Epilobium angustifolium <u><b>L.</b></u>)?
I did not find any info regarding the author of the species on the
OSM wiki. <br>
</p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>Last note, I'll wait for more feedback on this to complete the
pull request on my side. If the feature is completed as if, it
will be shipped in version 3.11 in September)<br>
</p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>Best,</p>

Hi Hugo,<br>
<br>
I use and contribute to Pl@ntNet and it is truly great and a
marvellous endeavour. A thank you to you for working on it! I am
also a believer in "the more the merrier" as a doctrine for
OpenStreetMap. <br>
<br>
I am however dubious about pushing observations into the
OpenStreetMap database, if my understanding is correct as to the
intent.<br>
<br>
Two reasons,<br>
<br>
1) I contribute things like cultivated and wild plants in my
garden and nearby road verges along with geolocation for anyone
interested in looking at geographic spread. I don't think (purely
personal view) that is of 100% value to OpenStreetMap itself - i.e
rather like the Wikipedia notability criteria. At most, I'd have
a filter for only trees.<br>
<br>
2) As I recall from my usage, there are choices when it comes to
geolocation. One is to get a GPS fix, so in the sort of accuracy
used by OpenStreetMap. The other is to use a push pin - I wonder
to what extent folks deliberately make it less than precise for
privacy reason. Just speculating, but that would not be useful for
OpenStreetMap. I've seen some of the ?Corrine tree cover imports
and they are generally terrible. Could observations be restricted
to GPS only?+<br>
<br>
I am going to forward my response and your mail to Jerry Clough
who is both a very active OSMer and a biologist as I am not sure
if he is on this list. He might have some more authoritative
thoughts ... but that is up to him!<br>
<br>
What might be nice (and perhaps useful!) would a plant observation
layer in OSM format that can be combined those interested. I think
we at OpenStreetMap may be missing an opportunity to incorporate
scientific and citizen science data into our ecosphere. The static
natural world - plants, geology and geomorphology - has some sort
of role I'm sure.<br>

<p>Hello,</p>
<p>I'm working on <a href="http://plantnet.org/"
moz-do-not-send="true">Pl@ntNet</a> mobile app (32 M users)
which allow users to identify plants and contribute/share them
(with the geolocation) on Pl@ntNet database. The data is then
available for everyone and also pushed to GBIF.org (a free
global biodiversity database). <br>
</p>
<p>Users requested a feature to push their plant observations to
OSM into Wikidata format. <br>
</p>
<p>The current plan to do this is to have a copy button in the
app which will format the data in text and put it in the user
clipboard on his mobile device: <code> </code></p>
<pre class="notranslate"><code>genus=Cercis
name=arbre de la piscine
natural=tree
species=Cercis siliquastrum
species:fr=Arbre de Judée
src=survey;Observation : Cercis siliquastrum L. (Pascal Vuylsteker 17 juin 2021) Flore mondiale - Pl@ntNet identify
</code></pre>
<p>Would that be ok or ideal?<br>
</p>
<p>If not, what could be done to facilitate adding data to OSM
through Pl@ntNet? <br>
</p>
