<html><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">I'm John Oram, aka Burrito Justice, a blog that (sometimes) focuses on local San Francisco history and mapping. A few examples:<div><br></div><div><a href="http://burritojustice.com/2010/02/10/yesterdays-baseball-is-tomorrows-safeway/">Yesterday's Baseball Is Tomorrow's Safeway</a></div><div><a href="http://burritojustice.com/2011/03/10/the-willows-18th-st-ravine-in-3d-and-1860s-mission-amusements/">http://burritojustice.com/2011/03/10/the-willows-18th-st-ravine-in-3d-and-1860s-mission-amusements/</a></div><div><a href="http://burritojustice.com/2010/01/27/26th-and-valencia-through-the-ages/">http://burritojustice.com/2010/01/27/26th-and-valencia-through-the-ages/</a></div><div><br></div><div>Making a map once is fun. Making it twice sucks. I'd love to have a way to capture the maps and metadata from my research and push it to a format that could be reused (never mind make it easier to make the first map…)</div><div><br></div><div><div>I'm a big fan of Brad's 'temple' idea. This would have to reflect street name changes, street renumbering, property lines. And there are historic entities -- people, homes, places of business, schools -- these all have tempels, extents and relationships.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Just as an example, I have a bunch of data on each fire company and where the engines went after the earthquake of 1906. I'd love to have a base 1906 map that I could overlay and animate the progress of the fire, along with the positions of the crews and the location of the water sources. Using directory information, you see what business were hit and you could even see where the firemen lived and if they were defending their homes.</div><div><br></div><div><div>Also, I'd love a way to clip, tag and tile the Sanborn fire insurance maps.</div></div><div><br></div><div>And we haven't even talked about how to show the history that didn't quite happen:</div><div><br></div><div><a href="http://burritojustice.com/2010/09/10/alternate-mission/">http://burritojustice.com/2010/09/10/alternate-mission/</a></div><div><br></div><div>-John</div></body></html>
