Given that folks want to go way back in history, it's also worth noting that "street" doesn't have a universal historical connotation. (Thinking here of historians that one would love to have get involved working on early Norse societies or archeologists working with pre-colonial history of the Americas both of whom might be excited about working with historical maps, but might see the word "street" and think it's not really for them). I don't think that's a particularly significant issue, but just a short note to mention that the project might seem more inviting to some if it didn't have "Street" in the title.

Best, Trevor

From: Jeff Meyer [mailto:jeff@gwhat.org]
Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2013 4:11 AM
To: Shekhar Krishnan
Cc: historic@openstreetmap.org
Subject: Re: [Historic] "HOSM" or "OHM"?

A couple other thoughts... I do think there's some value in having the name "OSM" as part of the name. It credits the source of our platform and aligns us with a large base of existing users and tools. There's a grant proposal in to use HOSM/OHM as a foundation for some work here in the US (more on this later, hopefully with some positive news...). The proposal has received some positive feedback, in part, I believe, due to the OSM connection. That said, OHM is certainly more broad-reaching sounding and may free us to communicate other concepts.

On Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 12:58 AM, Jeff Meyer <jeff@gwhat.org> wrote:

Shekhar -

These are good suggestions - we have already moved to the term "Historical."

See: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Historical_OSM.
