<div>Here is a great article on historic geocoding from GISCafe.  I am not sure how this affects the capabilities at Historic OpenStreetMap, maybe you who are a bit more techincally savvy and more familiar with the OSM architecture will be able to use this information.  It is a very interesting article:</div>
