<div dir="ltr">Hi folks, <div><br></div><div>I'm very glad to stumble upon this projects based on OSM, for that I belive it being magnificent collaboration platform. </div><div><br></div><div>I've not found anything particular of subj at the HOSM wiki page, so I'm writing it here to express a need I've encountered suddenly.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Starting studying some basic geopolitics, almost at once I've surfed to online maps (in my case, Yandex Maps) to remember what's up on world map, where things are, etc. And of course I was naively dissapointed for not having a time slider at the bottom, which would get me to wolrd state «as of 1905», etc. I'd like to see country borders and names of the time I'm reading about, at the very least.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Moreover, if something happens that does change the borders, I'd like to see and browse such events explicitly in particular area, like.. changesets in OSM ;) </div><div><br></div><div>LOL, user "Adolph Hitler" have commited some changesets to world map at 1939. :))</div>
<div><br></div><div>To the point. Borders and terrirory claims may be of various status of acceptance (by world participants). Each significant change should be linked to additional information (events, etc). I've googled up a random historical map on youtube (<a href="http://goo.gl/qsLszN">http://goo.gl/qsLszN</a>), and noticed that coloured German terrirory noticeably spans into USSR during 1941-1942 advancement. Looks crude — why not another color, like war front line? Why not another fill color of temporarily occupied terrirories? </div>
<div><br></div><div>Lot's of details to take care of, in implementing a naive «year slider» I've dreamt of intially ;)</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for reading, I hope this would serve to more useful Historical OSM. </div>
<div><br></div><div>How's the project is going? What prevents the lovers of history to start drawing their favourite periods and events at the map? I can dream of hordes of those, contributing to community knowledge, which is already happened to Wikipedia and OSM. :))</div>
