I'm not a GIS person and RS doesn't ring a bell but as an active OSM contributor living in Haiti here are my few cents:

* Bing imagery covers all of Archaie coast. The imagery is available for tracing to OSM via all(?) OSM tools, at least JOSM and Potlatch that I use). The imagery is also available in various mobile apps and others so I guess it has a standard WMS/TMS api? (I should know by now but I realize I don't)
- the imagery has patchy alignment problems in most areas but that wouldn't impact your landcover use and can be fixed for other use (aligning to existing data / GPS traces when available)
- the imagery is mostly post quake (for that area) -- _i think_

* OSM wiki has a lot of documentation on both imagery and data sets (even though a good chunk of that is now outdated..).

* OSM is very clearly the best freely available (integrated) geo data set for Haiti. As is it only makes sense to use it and contribute to it.

It would be nice to meet up when you're here. Give me a call or send a msg and let's have a

Cheers,
-Jaakko

(This reply will probably not get posted to crisismappers as I seem to have subscribed to it with another email address.)

Sent from my BlackBerry® device from Digicel
--
Mobile: +509-37-26 91 54, Skype/GoogleTalk: jhelleranta

From: Rebecca Stedham <rlstedham@btinternet.com>
