there is another option which I occasionally use. Depending on the
area in question you might find more-or-less outdated US military
maps (JOG/AMS etc.) which have the advantage that there is no
copyright associated with them. They tend to be fairly exact as
far as terrain and waterbodies are concerned and sometimes are
