I have a bad memory but I don't seem to remember voting you in as OSM president.<br><br>I used this tool to help import some OS waterway data for my local area which there is no way I could survey on foot. Importing data is not always a bad thing and can add a lot of richness to the map especially in rural areas where a lot of essential map features (woodland, waterways, etc.) can be hard/impossible to survey yourself.<br>

Why do people still insist on converting, and directly importing?<br>

2) make the .osm files available<br>
3) tell the community about it, so others can take a look before the<br>
most local people to the data actually 'copy it in' to osm.<br>

Yes! it takes more time this way, but the community is built by local<br>
area mappers, not 'remote mappers'.<br>

There is a difference between 'helping local mappers' and 'dropping<br>
data in without them knowing'.<br>

I (for 1) no longer plan on 'plopping data in', instead focus on just<br>
mapping the area that i plan on actually going.<br>

Garmin Maps can be made directly from OSM files, so its not needed to<br>
have it in the database so fast. (which is what im now doing with the<br>
CanVec .osm files as they continue to be available)<br>
