<html><head></head><body><div style="font-family: Verdana;font-size: 12.0px;"><div>
<div>At least in the data we have for Styria, each platform has it's own ID. So, stops on opposite sides of a street get 2 different IDs, so the biggest railway station in Styria has a total of 40 different IDs for the different railway, bus and tram platforms.</div>

<div>However, the IDs are built somewhat hierarchically, e.g. at:46:3040:2:ICB, where at stands for the country, 46 probably for Styria (all stops have this number), 3040 is the same for all platforms at this railway station, 2 is a subdivison of the stop, and ICB designates the platform (because the Inter City Buses leave there). Right next to this platform is at:46:3040:2:5863, where the bus lines 58 and 63 leave. (At other stops, the last part is often named "ein" and "aus" for buses going into or out of a city, or named after the city the buses head to.) So it can be deducted, that all platforms starting with at:46:3040:2:* are close to each other, and all platforms starting with at:46:3040:*:* belong to the same stop_area.</div>

<div> </div>

<div>Now here is the big BUT: After browsing through the IFOPT specifications, there doesn't appear to be a standard naming convention, so the above could only be true for Styria. It only states, that the ID should start with the country code to avoid conflicts in naming, the rest appears to be up to the responsible organizations.</div>

<div>I've been trying to find some information on this IFOPT reference. What is not clear to me is whether 2 stops, each on a side of the street get 2 different IFOPT identifiers. What if there is a bus/tram and a metro station with the same name, do they all share the same IFOPT identifier?<br/>

If that's the case, maybe IFOPT should go on the stop_area relation, instead of the node.<br/>

This all looks good. I have one more request. Could you update the<br/>
public transport wiki pages to include the ref:IFOPT tag. It looks<br/>
like you will be the first person using this tag.<br/>
