[Merkaartor] merkaartor freezes while opening gpx files

Good Morning,

I have recently reinstalled my main desktop from Fedora 9 64bit to
32bit and now merkaartor cannot open gpx-files anymore.

I have tried this with self-compiled 0.10, self-compiled svn and
the svn version from the suse openbuild. Same results.

Merkaartor starts - I open a 200-300k gpx file and it freezes taking
100% cpu until I kill it.

Opening a very small (<10k) gpx file works. 

It has to be related to the fresh install but I cannot figure out what
the problem is. 

I have uploaded an strace of the process and a sample gpx file here:
