[Merkaartor] OziExplorer .map + jpeg as a layer?

i see geotiffs as background for merkaartor already, by use of a mapserver.
the URI in the settings simply points to localhost.
this setup has the additional benefit that i can display the maps in an
openlayers slippy map as well, and in a merkaartor on another computer
without having to copy the maps.

due to mapserver's features, you can even see maps of different scales
when you zoom in/out in merkaartor.

too bad we're not allowed to draw from them, but they are very handy
for comparison.

i used gdal to create the geotiffs. :-)
