Yep, this is now officially a "Known issue" with Qt 4.5.1.

As soon as I have 4.5.1 installed somewhere, I could look into it.

- Chris -

2009/4/26 Ed Avis <eda@waniasset.com>

I had a similar problem on my Fedora 10 system with qt-4.5.0. (When installed
the system worked, but after package updates Merkaartor would crash on startup,
so I built it myself from source, which gives the symptoms described below.)

Downloading data shows a big white square in the area downloaded. The border of
that area has the red dots meaning 'not fully downloaded here' and shows bits of
downloaded streets. I can click on streets to highlight them and this shows
they are there in the white square area, but as soon as I unselect them they
disappear from view again. I tried to refresh the display by zooming in and
out, scrolling, etc. but the white square was still there. Downloading a larger
area just makes the white square bigger.

When I unticked 'show downloaded areas' on the menu the problems stopped.
