It looks as though I did find it when I first went through.  It is set to 
00:00:01.  So far, so good.

I remember checking that before I bought it.

Yes, that's correct as well.

Thanks.  It does.  However, it doesn't tell me what went wrong when I 
downloaded with gpsbabel and got very little data.  The commands I used were

gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F track1.gpx and gpsbabel -w -i 
garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F tracl1-waypoints.gpx
