<pre wrap="">I've got a question about tagging... The area[1] in the middle of the
Isle of Man has a large amount of rambling land that's open to the
public, I think covered mostly with heather, gorse and other sorts of
low level vegetation[2]. Does anyone have some tips on how it would
best be tagged? I've tagged it as natural=fell for now, but it may not
be the most suitable.

<pre wrap="">I think it should have some sort of boundary tag. See
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:boundary">http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:boundary</a>
It lists boundary=national_park - I think this is kind of similar, in
that it is an area of land, with designated access rights etc.
But its not a national park. boundary=public_land_open_to_ramblage is a
bit longwinded, is there an shorter official name, or abbreviation?
Or maybe a more generic/international name, eg boundary=access_land?

Using a boundary tag makes sense I think, and yes, I'd say it was
similar to the idea of a national park but not officially the same.
I've gone with boundary=rambling_land for now, until something better
comes along. I'd just love to see it rendered to fill those big gaps
;)

There definitely appears to be a shortage of approved Boundary=* tags.<br>

Dan, not sure if IoM applies but is it designated as Open Access Land?<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/enjoying/places/openaccess/default.aspx">http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/enjoying/places/openaccess/default.aspx</a><br>
On OS maps these areas are shown as lightly shaded areas with a light
brown border.<br>
<br>
The Cotswolds (which, for some reason, has been designated an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty) have been mapped as a National Park. I
think this is wrong as NP have different rules, such as planning &
management. <br>
