<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi all, </div><div><br></div>Given things are only being setup at the moment I think its best this is held off this time around at least. There are more pressing things to be done with CiviCRM first. However in the future, once its up and running, I would like to look at this again. <div><br></div><div>At the very least its a good way of increasing OSMF membership numbers, funds and support which can not be a bad thing no matter how its achieved. </div><div><br></div><div>To give another example, further down the line I'd like to see if we could do some kind of linking with approved local chapters where a new member joins (see: supports) the local OSM chapter for X but can also join the OSMF for an additional X. This would be especially beneficial in poorer countries where the current £15 price would equate to a few weeks income. </div><div><br></div><div>As for it being outside the scope of this WG. If expanding the membership is not part of the remit, whats the point? By expanding I am also including diversity (ethnicity, region, sex, age, language etc etc) as well as just pure numbers increasing. In my personal view, I don't see why the scope of this WG wouldn't extend to, among other things:<br></div><div>- promote local chapter growth on a country by country basis</div><div>- provide member services to assist with community growth on a local level<br></div><div>- convert more visitors to members of OSM > members of OSM to contributors > contributors of OSM to OSMF members</div><div><br></div><div>and so on and so on</div><div><br></div><div>This is what I spoke about previously where people who've signed up for this WG will have pre-conceived notions about this WG, myself included. Unfortunately I am about to head out to Lesotho for 2 weeks so delving into peoples heads will have to wait until after I get back but this is something that absolutely should happen if this WG is to be effective. </div><div><br></div><div>Dave</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Wed, Jan 28, 2015 at 7:41 PM, Richard Weait <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:richard@weait.com" target="_blank">richard@weait.com</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">On Wed, Jan 28, 2015 at 1:45 PM, Frederik Ramm <<a href="mailto:frederik@remote.org">frederik@remote.org</a>> wrote:<br>

As I understand it there is no connection between the local event in<br>
NYC and OSMF. Correct me if I'm missing something.<br>
<br>
Why would OSMF offer a discounted membership to those attending a<br>
non-OSMF event? Would OSMF offer a similar discount to attendees of<br>
any local event? What if that event was only tangentially related to<br>
mapping, or not related to mapping at all?<br>
<br>
On the other hand, to encourage best practices, OSMF could offer<br>
discounted membership to any mapper who performs high-value mapping,<br>
by local survey. If one recognizes the very best in mapping, the<br>
membership would be free, as recognized by the recent acceptance of<br>
the fee waiver membership resolution.<br>
<br>
Best regards,<br>
<br>
Richard<br>
