whatever we thought would be useful. This wouldn't necessarily need be funding, but could include it; as a volunteer based community that's something we need to consider carefully. What was immediately interesting to us was the opportunity to discuss the growth of
OSMF globally, plan for that growth, consider the options for the activities of OSM and OSMF, and explore the kinds of things we should consider organizationally. Omidyar Network has demonstrated experience with the process involved in these kinds of issues, and we were excited for their offer.

To start the official discussion with ON, we were asked to complete a short Needs Summary. This will be presented to a committee at ON for consideration soon. The Board has drafted the following, and now asks you, the membership, to review and comment on this email thread. We don't want to extend the length of the paper, but do want to make sure this document rings true for the Foundation.

<a target="_blank"

The possibilities laid out here were largely taken from the thread last month, and subsequent discussions. As made clear in the document, these are just early thoughts, and not a formal request.

http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/osmf-talk/2010-February/000789.html (Fyi, that discussion was with a different funder, OSI.)

Please submit comments over the next two days.
