Or an outdoor expedition to collect addresses with OsmPad lasts
several hours and results in one edit, while drawing over satellite
images in the "JOSM" editor during same period of time may create
several edits.
I attended the "SOTM US 2013", including Workshops on Friday, June
7th. The "SOTM US" has become an international event. There were
participants from Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Nicaragua, etc. What
I would like to have after such workshops is some kind of a formal
paper stating that I received a training in the field of
"OpenStreetMap" editing at the workshop in San Francisco, USA.

The "OpenSrteetMap" is used by serious organizations. For example,
The State Cadastre of
Ukraine's map: http://map.dazru.gov.ua/kadastrova-karta
is based on the OSM map.

I would also be ready to pay the OSMF membership fee for, say, 5
years forward, if I could receive a nice looking plastic membership
card. The production of such a card and mailing it internationally
would cost about 20 - 30 USD per card. It is just not practically to
issue membership card for one year. At least for 5. For one year it
could be and electronic membership card in a PDF file.

I am currently based in Geneva, Switzerland. It is a good place to
mail the membership cards world wide. I am ready to undertake the
production and mailing the membership plastic cards. I will not be
in Birmingham as I will work as a volunteer, as a runner, at the
Open Knowledge Conference in Geneva http://okcon.org/
16-18 September. But my offer to print at the specialized printing
company and mail 5 years membership cards from Geneva, Switzerland,
stands.

While it is a good idea to make discount for contributers who need
it at the moment, there area also contributors, who would like to
invest time and effort. Money was invented 5000 years ago in
Mesopotamia, and since then no one could think of a better tool for
organizing a society. Some tried, but failed.

It is self-evident that money is needed for servers, electricity,
traffic, etc. Why not try to find a way to earn money? I suggest
"OpenStreetMap" training courses (workshops) with a certification.
And 5 years OSMF membership plastic cards.

I also support idea of a discount membership for, say, students,
pensioners, etc.
