As said: yes the OSMF could have software projects, however
doesn't at this point in time. Doing it in a way that would be
compatible with getting external funding would likely require
engagement by both the board and the currently dormant EWG,
"slightly" more formal than simply spending some existing funds.

Wrt my suggested "small" projects: typically we wait till
somebody feels enough pain that they either write the software
themselves or get somebody to do so, recent cases at hand:
subscription to diary post comments, fixing the gravatar privacy
issue or the large amount of work Andy is doing on cleaning up the
website code in general.

However when we have issues that doesn't rise to that level of
pain for any one specific individual or mismatch with the
capabilities of those interested. they tend to "never" get done,
the 2 items I mentioned fall in to this category.

PS: yes, there was a certain amount of goading involved in that
post, see ".. somebody feels enough pain" :-)

Simon, didn't you recently suggest a "software
project" to the OSMF [1]? Couldn't stuff like that be within
scope of Mozilla, even if cirrent projects might not qualify?
