<div dir="ltr">Hello Erwin,<div><br></div><div>Talking about the topic openly is important and this is the whole point of that email thread. </div><div>But you have to understand that not everything is happy to talk about things openly when they have been confronted by such a problem in the past. That's why you want to keep the debate open in both case: openly and more privately. </div><div>This is not about creating a secret club of OSM female contributors bent on taking over the world of OpenStreetMap. This is about being able to discuss something more privately for the people who are less comfortable about it publicly. </div><div>Anyway, it is important to have a vigorous talk about it and I really want to thank you for your contribution too. This is not about blaming one side or another, it is more about comfort level for some people (whether male or female actually).</div><div><br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Tue, Nov 28, 2017 at 3:05 PM, Erwin Olario <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:govvin@gmail.com" target="_blank">govvin@gmail.com</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">I am disappointed to see that a progressive idea like OpenStreetMap, couldn't accommodate any space for members of the community who feel uncomfortable to discuss this matter openly.<div><div class="h5"><div><br></div><div><br><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr">On Wed, Nov 29, 2017, 06:04 Kate Chapman <<a href="mailto:kate@maploser.com" target="_blank">kate@maploser.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Hi All,<div><br></div><div>I just wanted to say if women wanted to discuss this further and don't feel comfortable posting on this mailing list I'd very much be interested in talking to you. </div><div><br></div><div>Please feel free to contact me directly. </div><div><br></div><div>Thanks,</div><div><br></div><div>-Kate</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Mon, Nov 27, 2017 at 12:01 PM, Rebecca Firth <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:rebecca.firth@hotosm.org" target="_blank">rebecca.firth@hotosm.org</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div>Hi,</div><div><br></div><div>Heather, thanks very much for reopening this topic for discussion. Myself and Amelia (copied) are very interested in becoming part of this discussion, which is also a pertinent topic at HOT. We are keen to promote gender inclusion across HOT and I'm sure can learn a lot from the ways this is/could be done across different parts of OSM. We don't have have clear stats at the moment to understand fully the role gender plays in HOT community participation, but we are doing an upcoming survey to investigate this further. Participants will be non identifiable, and we obviously won't achieve 100% coverage, but hopefully will get an idea to start with.</div><div><br></div><div>Perhaps Celine and Miriam from the GeoChicas (<a href="http://geochicas.org" target="_blank">geochicas.org</a>) might also share some of the outputs from their recent research.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks,</div><div><br></div><div>Rebecca</div><div><br></div><div class="gmail_extra"><div><div class="m_8224722041561008597m_1266332105559857206h5"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Mon, Nov 27, 2017 at 8:59 AM, Oleksiy Muzalyev <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:oleksiy.muzalyev@bluewin.ch" target="_blank">oleksiy.muzalyev@bluewin.ch</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">On 27.11.17 14:28, john whelan wrote:<br>

As an aside, I was surprised to learn that in accordance with the WHO, World Health Organization, statistics the percentage of violence against women is about the same all over the world [1]. It does not depend much on a region, income, etc. One in three women experience a violence significant enough to contact a hospital. The WHO gets its statistics from medical institutions.<br>
<br>
Probably, this 1 in 3 pattern is an intrinsic characteristic of the Homo sapiens at the current stage of the evolution. Or it may be connected with the substance abuse [2], which is also present all over the world in one or another form.<br>
