<div dir="ltr"><div>Thanks everyone for a really productive discussion. There are so many examples of leaders around the world from those who posted here and to all of you who don't post on mailing lists. It is exciting to read about the activities in Nepal and LatAm. I recently read about a map training for women lead by the community in Indonesia as well. I know that HOT, Missing Maps, and YouthMappers have a higher percentage of women contributors. Step by step.<br></div><div><br></div><div>There are a few potential actions from what we have written so far:<br></div><div><br></div><div>-community work plan on gender inclusion</div><div>-sharing more examples of mapathons and activities that encourage women/genders</div><div>-documenting some of the best practices to engage all genders</div><div>-creating a safe and collaborative space <br></div><div>-having a plan about gender neutral mapping. How can we actively focus mapping on places that women use</div><div>-find a way to assess metrics - are we improving engagement? - while respecting privacy</div><div><br></div><div>What other items would you add?<br></div><div><br></div><div>Thank you, <br><br></div><div>Heather <br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br clear="all"><div><div class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div>Heather Leson<br><a href="mailto:heatherleson@gmail.com" target="_blank">heatherleson@gmail.com</a><br>Twitter/skype: HeatherLeson <br>Blog: <a href="http://textontechs.com" target="_blank">textontechs.com</a><br></div></div></div></div></div></div>

<p class="MsoNormal">I'd like to re-open a discussion about gender in this community. How can we improve the gender balance? I know there are some amazing leaders and best practices. It would be great to hear from women and other genders that are often rare
voices. Kate posted about diversity this summer. Let's build on this.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">As much as I've been vocal during this period, I tend to read and not comment on this forum. The reason for that is partially due to the tone. OSM can only truly global if we keep working on this.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Also, would the "actions" from this discussion flow to the membership working group? I notice that there are no women listed on the wiki for this group. Maybe we need a "gender chair" to really follow through. The "membership working group"
does not appear to have the offical responsibilty to improve the community experience. If not the "membership working group" to take up this gap, then maybe we need a balanced "community working group" .<u></u><u></u></p>
