    <p>Thar doesn't sound quite right, the current situation is<br>

    <p>- unchanged since the time associate membership was introduced
      (2013), pay £15 and become either a regular or an associate
      member, no other requirements</p>
    <p>- alternatively since a couple of years with a couple of
      different requirements, become a member through the membership fee
      waiver scheme</p>
    <p>The board is now implementing restrictions of the former, not
      loosening the requirements for the later.</p>
    <p>This goes back to the 2020 AGM and the vote on

          <div>Right now, anyone can join the OSMF for a payment of £15,
            and zero days mapping.  So that membership requirement has
            already been, as you describe, dropped.  It seems to me that
            reducing the mapping requirement helps to close the
            accessibility gap.  Paying £15 is trivial for many people in
            more affluent parts of the world.  So essentially today, if
            you are economically advantaged, the barrier to entry is
            low.  If paying £15 is cost-prohibitive, you have to map for
            a significant period of time, which is more of a burden to
            those people than paying £15 likely is to you or I. 
            Reducing the mapping requirement helps to lower the barrier
            for less economically advantaged people to something that
            more closely approaches the monetary barrier for more
            affluent folks.</div>
