<p>As an example, imagine I'm looking at</p>

<p>and want to look at the relation's history.  I have to scroll down to get to "View history", and when I click it there's a several-second delay during which the left-hand bar of the screen is blank apart from a spinner.  Eventually the relation history is displayed.  Similarly when I press back or scroll down to get at "view details" there's a similar, shorter delay.</p>

<p>Compare that with:</p>

<p><a href="http://owl.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/4">http://owl.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/4</a></p>

<p>When I click "view history" (which is at the top of the screen) the "details" aren't removed until the history is displayed.  I'm assuming, of course, that the actual time taken to display history in place of details is the same - but why after I've clicked something must the screen go blank before new details are displayed?</p>
