My comment did not question the name:etymology:wikidata-tag. What I intended to say was, that if there is a wikidata-tag and a name:etymology:wikidata-tag on the same OSM-object, then the latter is superfluous, because this information should be maintained at wikidata.</p>
<p>name:etymology:wikidata should only be used if the OSM-object (street or whatever) has no corresponding wikidata-item, as you said.</p>
<p>And the prefixed wikidata-tags will get hyperlinks as far as I find time for it. The only thing that won't happen is, that the Title of the wikidata-item shows on osm.org. You will have to click on the link, like currently with wikidata=*.</p>
