<p>I do not see why the fact that the search is not connected to sharing affects any of these. Sure if you jump somewhere far the mark is "out of screen" and it is questionable how to deal with this, but this is really a minor issue. The main use case is really different.</p>

<ol class="task-list">
<li>You want to share the map.</li>
<li>You search the place which you want to show (if you are not already looking on it)</li>
<li>You position and zoom the map to your liking</li>
<li>You want to place a marker by simply clicking somewhere on the map.</li>
</ol>

<p>That is what it takes. This is used in any of the maps with sharing capabilities (except OSM).</p>
