<p>I don't think optimising the SVG like that is going to work either - as soon as somebody edits it the "optimisation" will presumably be lost (likely a bigger issue in the other PR than this one). The correct approach is to have the asset pipeline do any optimisation.</p>
<p>What does this "optimisation" do anyway? Is it achieving anything that a simple gzip doesn't?</p>
