I wasn't involved in the design nor in any other way in its inception, others are probably better able to weigh in there. The requesters that spoke to me at the currently running SotM sounded like they valued it enough to warrant adding it as a featured layer. It is not a specialized map, but a general one. I added a few example usages above.</p>
