<p>I've checked this and at least on the latest Firefox (59.0.1), it is still recording each and every URL hash change as can be seen with the following screenshot of my browser history window.</p>

<p>Maybe inspecting the history using the <a href="https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/History" rel="nofollow">JavaScript History API</a> won't show these URL hash changes but this is certainly still a (minor) annoyance.</p>
<p>I also checked with Chromium (64.0.3282.167) and the history is also polluted.</p>
