There's a few things in Potlatch 1 where the endpoints have gone away ("Find tag" points to tagstat.hypercube.telascience.org, "Find photos" points to openstreetphoto.org) so I wouldn't have an issue with the GPS call joining them. It doesn't seem to work for me either.

Anyone who really wants to load a GPS trace into Potlatch 1 can do so by uploading it to OSM, choosing 'edit' and then appending '&editor=potlatch' after the URL!
