<p dir="auto">Since OLC codes are easily recognized by the + character, this feature seems unlikely to have any (negative) effects on people who do <em>not</em> search for OLC codes.<br>
And obviously it is a big improvement for people who <em>do</em> search for OLC codes.</p>
<p dir="auto">Also the plus_codes ruby gem is pretty minimal, self-contained, and stable, so the technical debt incurred is rather small.</p>
<p dir="auto">Given these these two points I don't really understand the resistance this proposal apparently still faces.</p>
