<p dir="auto">Both options have their pros/cons. A REST endpoint looks more like a proper interface to me. It could return some further details in case a changeset cannot be accepted, including a proper error message. Of course, it will introduce much more overhead compared to calling a function on the database. On the positive side, you could write all logic in RoR.</p>
<p dir="auto">Regarding the database function, passing a few parameter values around wouldn't be much of an issue. If things start getting more complicated, that approach doesn't scale well. A settings table might be better in the long run.</p>
