<li>Goes to <a href="https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit" rel="nofollow">https://www.openstreetmap.org/edit</a> proper.</li>
</ol>

<p dir="auto">I would assume this might delay vandalism and/or reduce amount of requests to external service, or maybe going directly to editor was an oversight rather than a feature. However, it would increase requests to the website itself from legit users, perhaps? Besides, it breaks the user flow, similar to <a class="issue-link js-issue-link" data-error-text="Failed to load title" data-id="1147056934" data-permission-text="Title is private" data-url="https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/issues/8994" data-hovercard-type="issue" data-hovercard-url="/openstreetmap/iD/issues/8994/hovercard" href="https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/issues/8994">openstreetmap/iD#8994</a></p>
