Much appreciated that this is taken into consideration. Just two more comments:

this indeed concerns other map styles as well although not all maps styles for server side rendering are designed with the same aims and design paradigms. OSM-Carto is designed explicitly and deliberatedly for a discrete set of scales even though this is not inherently mandated by the technical framework used (Mapnik) and a lot of effort has been put into to achieving high information density and decent readability simulaneously at these specific scales, as well as to be intuitive for the map user when switching from one scale to the next. This approach is not necessarily equally shared by other styles. The Tracestrack Topo layer is also downsampled by default it seems (to half the linear resolution of the tiles as rendered) so it is possible that they are generally unconcerned with resampling of their tiles (though they probably intend this to accomodate different display resolutions at the same scale from the same tiles rather than to conjure up additional in-between scales).

if the guidelines how OSM-Carto should be used are not clear please don't hesitate to ask.
