<div>I have been working directly with OSM for my research for many years now. One of my primary research interests is in the development of data quality assessment methodologies for OSM in order to help both OSM contributors and researchers identify quality
issues and subsequently address them. I am also very interested in how government agencies (such as mapping agencies) can use OSM and how OSM and these agencies can collaborate together [0]. An almost complete list of publications is available on my academic
homepage [6] with a similar list compiled by Google Scholar [7]. In addition to this I use OSM data as the primary spatial data source for my teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. In terms of meeting organisation I a member of the Irish
OSGeo Local Chapter [8] and have been involved as a member of the organisation team for an annual VGI related workshop at the annual AGILE GIS conference [9]. Recently I was delighted to be the host of the launch of the OSM Ireland Company and Chapter event
at our University [10]. I presented at SOTM 2019 in Heidelberg [11]<br>

<div><b>Editorial experience</b><br>

</div>
<div>I am a peer-reviewer for a number of leading journals in the domain of geospatial science and GIS. I am a member of the editor panel for a number of current Special Issues which include OSM research as a major topic [1],[2] and [3]. I was a member of the
Scientific Committee for the Academic Track at SOTM 2018 in Milan [4]. At SOTM 2018 and 2019 I was involved in the organisation of the Academic Track day. I was one of the editors of the first ever book which was published showcasing OSM as a topic of academic
research in its own right [5]. I am an Editor of the Transactions in GIS journal [12]<br>

Following the first two successful editions of the <b>Academic Track</b> at State of the Map 2018 in Milan [1] and State of the Map 2019 in Heidelberg [2], this Track will be included again in the program of State of the Map 2020, to be held in Cape Town on
July 3-5, 2020. The main purpose of the Academic Track is to bring together and foster interactions between the OpenStreetMap community at large (contributors, developers, users, etc.) and the academic/scientific community of researchers from all over the
world.<br>
<br>
<div>A designated Scientific Committee will be responsible for the organization of the Academic Track, co-chaired by Marco Minghini (on behalf of the OSMF State of the Map Working Group) and Serena Coetzee (on behalf of the South Africa local team). We hereby
issue a call for applications, inviting all interested individuals to apply to join the Scientific Committee. This team will be in charge of:</div>
<ul>
<li>writing and publishing the call for abstracts/papers for the Academic Track at State of the Map 2020</li><li>designing and managing the review process of the submitted abstracts, deciding which ones to accept for oral presentation or poster presentation</li><li>defining the Academic Track schedule at State of the Map 2020, by working in close contact with the
<a href="https://2020.stateofthemap.org/cfp/#committee" target="_blank">Programme Committee</a>
</li><li>planning and managing possible publication outputs, e.g. conference proceedings and/or or a Special Issue in a scientific journal</li></ul>
<div>The Academic Track Scientific Committee will be composed by Marco and Serena plus additional people that would be selected through this open call. The number of additional people is not defined a priori and will depend on the number and quality of applications
received.<br>

Thus, we invite applications for <b>researchers or academics</b> to be part of the Academic Track Scientific Committee. The call is open to everyone interested.

Only applications submitted according to this procedure and only self-nominations will be considered.<br>
<br>
The deadline for applications is <b>January 8, 2020</b>.<br>
<br>
Applications will be assessed by the OSMF State of the Map Working Group and the Cape Town local team. The Academic Track Scientific Committee will be formed based on the candidates' personal merit and their chance to participate in State of the Map 2020 (assessed
from the answers to the questions above) and according to the overall goal of forming a diverse and interdisciplinary Team. In absence of candidates who are meeting the expectations, the OSMF State of the Map Working Group and the Cape Town local team reserve
the right to nominate additional persons by invitation.<br>
