But as Mikel said, the question of how and what OSMF provides is interesting
enough.
I'd largely agree with Frederik's point (though "money-laundering" was perhaps a bit harsh :) ) - we are not here as an intermediary to raise funds from one organisation and donate them to another.

OSMF has very limited resources (capital, revenue, and human alike) and we need to focus them on the core mission: growing the database and making it available via openstreetmap.org.

If Maposmatic, which is a terrific project, could be _sustainably_ integrated into osm.org as "export tab on crack" then that might be interesting. But our volunteers and our resources are stretched thinly enough that we need to be careful about taking on extra work.
Whether we can provide support to them or not is open to question as it stands right now. I am actually a bit annoyed that they end up been caught in the middle when it was definitely not my intention.
I am fully aware of how stretched the ressources of the foundation are on all 3 count, but it is worth considering how we should evolve.
As you point yourself, an integration with the osm.org website could prove useful, and it could be even be possible in terms of implementation already based on what I see. The real question is of the ressources, which is exactly what this discussion is all about.
