There is no problem with amenity=drinking_water. The problem arises if you want to indicate the water quality of, say, a fountain:<br><div style="margin-left:40px">amenity=fountain<br>drinking/potable/drinkable=yes/no<br><br>

Honestly, there were discussions in 2008, as amenity=potable_water was<br>
the original proposal and then was changed to drinking_water because<br>
many mappers objected that potable was less understandable.<br>
