My understanding is that André talks about foot-ways that are marked by zebra stripes to augment their visibility. They are not (necessarily) crossing any other way. They are ways and therefore in my understanding no crossings at all, they are foot-ways marked by zebra stripes, often not physically separated from other traffic. I have encountered them in Italy too, but do not remember right away where.
I think where a visible painting like at zebra crossings is painted
along a street as you describe, that isn't a crossing (it doesn't cross
anything), but more like a sidewalk without being raised or separated by
anything else but the color pattern on the ground.

I also tag those as crossings, they are clearly crossings for pedestrians, the footway crosses the street. It might become more disputable if there are only road markings but no vertical sign, as the latter are obligatory in many countries in order to make it a true zebra crossing, but I'm inclined to make them count as well, because it will be like the preferred spot for pedestrians to cross. Please note that it might be even forbidden to cross the street on other spots if you are within a certain range of a marked crossing.
