Hi,<br>
<br>
I'm always annoyed when I write to Mr X that he can request
additions to his OSM element (what some call his feature like his
shop), that I feel necessary to give him examples, repeated over and
over again, and that my list is short.<br>
I think that I should just refer him to the OSM.org map Help page...<br>
<br>
Shouldn't there be a wiki page to show to such people, listing the
most common tags he can ask, most most common first, with a very
short explanation and, of course, a link to the full explanation?
Is there?<br>
Also maybe a "how to help us", <a
href="http://www.papou.byethost9.com/maps/OSM_user_help/">like
I've written here</a> (may be outdated).<br>
And maybe ...<br>
Doesn't all that sound like a "how to browse and use the OSM.org
map" page that should be its help file?<br>
<br>
Unfortunately, as I reported here, <a
href="https://github.com/openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website/issues/871">Tom
Hughes refused to put</a> a <a
href="https://github.com/openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website/issues/871">(this)
Help page</a> on OSM.org.<br>
It amounts to saying that what I and the other contributors of that
page have written is crap.<br>
"Full of all sorts of hacky low level details" (like the essentials
to make a link to OSM.org).<br>
And links to other wiki pages "full of years works of ac[c]reted
nonsense".<br>
<a href="http://www.openstreetmap.org">OSM.org map</a> would "not be
intended for the end user" but "the target audience is mappers". <br>
All that in a usual destructive way, not a single suggestion and not
even a reply.<br>
<br>
Strangely enough, much later, a mapper asked me (why me?) where that
<a href="http://www.openstreetmap.org/help">impossible to find</a> <br>
(damned) <a href="http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Browsing">Browsing
Help page</a> is. Don't be surprised then if the general public,
who doesn't even know it exists, doesn't get interested in OSM.<br>
<br>
What can I show to Mr X?<br>
<br>
Cheers
<br>
