<div dir="ltr">> You can’t cross here<div><br></div><div>Fully agree. This tag is the least ambiguous. There are some good discussions to have in the future to of whether to add language to the wiki to state whether the crossing must be illegal, or if it's also okay to tag if the crossing is unsafe or unreasonable.</div><div><br></div><div>> You can cross here, but there is no special legal status to it</div><div><br></div><div>This definition disagrees with what the wiki states as well as the face-value semantics of the value: crossing=unmarked is just about whether the crossing has markings (it doesn't). There is actually nothing about the current schema that says anything about legal status, which is one of the reason the 'uncontrolled' tag has lead to confusiong, as in the real world that's a legal thing. What hierarchy exists is about infrastructure in all cases.</div><div><br></div><div>> You can cross here, and it is a designated crossing place with some kind of special legal status (that in most jurisdictions prioritizes pedestrians over vehicles, specifics depend on local jurisdiction)</div><div><br></div><div>I believe the legal status part is also questionable in this case, which is crossing=uncontrolled. The wiki states that it's about markings and there are cases where the legal distinction between marked and unmarked crossings is minimal (possibly nonexistent?).</div><div><br></div><div>> You can cross here, and there is a traffic signal that tells you exactly when you can and can’t cross that you have to follow</div><br><div>This matches my best understanding of the wiki.</div><div><br></div><div>The strategy of using on-the-ground-describable features is a good one. Legal status varies by country, region, metro area, municipal regulations and can hopefully be predicted based on those ground conditions. I'd be interested to hear about exceptions, though - where legal status can't be inferred from location and ground surveyed features.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Fri, May 24, 2019 at 5:10 PM <<a href="mailto:osm.tagging@thorsten.engler.id.au">osm.tagging@thorsten.engler.id.au</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div bgcolor="white" lang="EN-AU"><div class="gmail-m_-8511060211522431845WordSection1"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;color:windowtext"><u></u> <u></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;color:windowtext"><u></u> <u></u></span></p><div style="border-top:none;border-right:none;border-bottom:none;border-left:1.5pt solid blue;padding:0cm 0cm 0cm 4pt"><div><div style="border-right:none;border-bottom:none;border-left:none;border-top:1pt solid rgb(225,225,225);padding:3pt 0cm 0cm"><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;color:windowtext">From:</span></b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;color:windowtext"> Warin <<a href="mailto:61sundowner@gmail.com" target="_blank">61sundowner@gmail.com</a>> <br><b>Sent:</b> Saturday, 25 May 2019 09:49<br><b>To:</b> <a href="mailto:tagging@openstreetmap.org" target="_blank">tagging@openstreetmap.org</a><br><b>Subject:</b> Re: [Tagging] Non-orthogonal crossing=* tag proposals: crossing=marked/unmarked vs crossing:markings=yes/no<u></u><u></u></span></p></div></div><p class="MsoNormal"><u></u> <u></u></p><div><p class="MsoNormal">On 25/05/19 07:32, Paul Allen wrote:<u></u><u></u></p></div><blockquote style="margin-top:5pt;margin-bottom:5pt"><div><div><p class="MsoNormal">On Fri, 24 May 2019 at 22:12, Kevin Kenny <<a href="mailto:kevin.b.kenny@gmail.com" target="_blank">kevin.b.kenny@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<u></u><u></u></p></div><div><blockquote style="border-top:none;border-right:none;border-bottom:none;border-left:1pt solid rgb(204,204,204);padding:0cm 0cm 0cm 6pt;margin-left:4.8pt;margin-right:0cm"><p class="MsoNormal"><br>Yeah, there really are combinations around here:<br><br>does it have signs?<br>does it have traffic signals?<br>does it have specific pedestrian-facing traffic signals?
