<div>Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think of the verge but that is for another proposal. Just had a look and in most cases (atleast in the rural parts) it is part of the landuse so that is fine.<br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>4 feb. 2021 16:06 van allroadsworld@gmail.com:<br></div><blockquote class="tutanota_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid #93A3B8; padding-left: 10px; margin-left: 5px;"><div dir="ltr"><div style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri'; COLOR: #000000"><div>For the road: road image.<br></div><div> <br></div><div>A part of the land is “the road”, what is that?<br></div><div>That is the carriageway, but also the verge grass (with some trees in it)
and your (2) traffic_island, footways, paths, cycleways, mostly laying between
two ditches (rural)<br></div><div>The whole area is landuse=highway. But just like landuse=railway, also a
area mostly between two ditches (in the rural part), very similar and same
methodology.<br></div><div>The use, the verge has a function, when using the road, escape, safety,
traffic_sign placement, parking, drainage, etc<br></div><div>We have area:highway=unclassified etc.<br></div><div>The whole, landuse=highway you can divide it into parts area:higway, so
there is area:highway=traffic_island <a href="https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/area%3Ahighway=traffic_island" title="https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/area%3Ahighway=traffic_island" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/area%3Ahighway=traffic_island</a><br></div><div>You could also draw in area:highway=verge<br></div><div>Both can have landcover=grass.<br></div><div>For the road we do not need landscaping, we have landcover.<br></div><div>Therefor we do not need a new methodology.<br></div><div> <br></div><div>Although, the wiki says some about street areas: <a href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:area:highway#Classification" title="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:area:highway#Classification" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:area:highway#Classification</a> which you can turn around in a tag combination for.........<br></div><div>area:highway=verge is a good extension.<br></div><div>Also area:highway=shoulder. Having it’s own tagvalue. This part of the area
must also be covered with a tag.<br></div><div> <br></div><div>Describe, what it really is, a part of the road.<br></div><div> <br></div><div style="FONT-SIZE: small; TEXT-DECORATION: none; FONT-FAMILY: "Calibri"; FONT-WEIGHT: normal; COLOR: #000000; FONT-STYLE: normal; DISPLAY: inline"><div style="FONT: 10pt tahoma"><div><span class="font" style="font-family:Calibri"><span class="size" style="font-size:16px"></span></span> <br></div><div style="BACKGROUND: #f5f5f5"><div style="font-color: black"><b>From:</b> <a title="tagging@openstreetmap.org" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Vincent van Duijnhoven via Tagging</a><br></div><div><b>Sent:</b> Thursday, February 4, 2021 1:39 PM<br></div><div><span class="font" style="font-family:Calibri"><span class="size" style="font-size:16px"></span></span> <br></div></div></div><div> <br></div></div><div style="FONT-SIZE: small; TEXT-DECORATION: none; FONT-FAMILY: "Calibri"; FONT-WEIGHT: normal; COLOR: #000000; FONT-STYLE: normal; DISPLAY: inline"><div>From all discussion, I get the feeling that both a new landuse or natural
value are not going to succeed because it is controversial to add a new value.
Some will, I think correct, oppose because it would fragment the vegetation
tagging even further<br></div><div> <br></div><div>I had a discussion with ZeLonewolf on Discord. Would there be support for a
tag like landscaping=*? Possible values could be shrubbery | grass |
trees/forest | flowerbed etc. For example on the following image: <a href="https://i.imgur.com/w4gAW6D.png" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://i.imgur.com/w4gAW6D.png</a> 1
would be tagged as natural=wood ( leave the discussion about how to tag the
forest for now), 2 as landscaping=grass, and 3 as natural=tree. If 2 would have
been low shrubbery for decoration, landscaping=shrubbery would be
sufficient.<br></div><div> <br></div><div>This tagging scheme would still honor for example natural=scrub from
scrublands and natural=shrub from individual shrubs. Also, the landuse tag would
be left untouched and still available to only tag real landuse (like residential
and industrial). <br></div><div> <br></div><div>Additionally, landscaping=* would allow to also properly tag the content of
a leisure=garden and leisure=park in more detail. <br></div><div> <br></div><div>Is this a workable solution?<br></div><div> <br></div><div>Kind regards,<br></div><div>Vincent<br></div><div> <br></div></div></div></div></blockquote><div><br></div> </body>
