<p>Hi, Paul.</p>
<p>A more specific value refers to clearly indicating in the tagging
"historic" (as clearly as possible, and preferably with a well
documented value on the wiki) which feature is considered as
historic.</p>
<p>The value in the tag "historic=*" is used to characterise the
type of feature. On the "Key:historic" page, contributors are
encouraged to use values that will be widely recognised and are in
common use. [1] The value "cemetery" for a historic cemetery is
very recognisable and commonly used in the real world to refer to
a historic cemetery.</p>
<p>On the other hand, no OSM contributor should feel obliged to use
a value they are not happy with.</p>
<p>Regards,</p>
<p>Daniel</p>

<div>Most times I have encountered historic=building it was an

<p>This proposal tries to document in the best possible
way a value in use for the key "historic". I think that
historic cemeteries are features with enough entity to
have a specific documented value for "historic". On the
"Key:historic" page there are some well-documented
values. [1]</p>

<div>I think I've now figured out what you mean by
"specific." It seems to mean</div>
<div>you think it needs its own historic=* value and your
rationale appears to be</div>
<div>because you'd like it that way.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>In contrast to you, I think most values of historic=* are
bogus and should</div>
<div>be deprecated in favour of adding historic=yes where
appropriate. There</div>
<div>are only a couple of objects which truly justify their
own historic value</div>
<div>because they cannot be anything other than historic, such
as memorial</div>
<div>plaques. Most houses are not historic. Most cemeteries
are not historic.</div>
<div>All memorial plaques are historic because they describe
something</div>
<div>noteworthy from the past (noteworthy enough that somebody
puts up</div>
<div>a plaque about it). You cannot have a memorial plaque or
monument</div>
<div>that is not historic.</div>
