They are absolutely not complete and avoid all tagging and
mapping confusion, but a good starting point. To better
understand the problematic use of OSM in the southern hemisphere
(they are also used largely in Asia and South-America if I am
not mistaking, mainly through HOTOSM projects or as a basis for
development of local tagging guidelines) and could be a good
resource to reflect the mapping issues faced in the non-western
world, namely outside of North-America and Europe.

I'm not clear on what you do differently in Africa, Is
there a document which describes the methodology? If
not, perhaps a quick informal summary of the differences
here would be helpful.
Even the bollards here get driven over, a bollard

local culture, local perception.
If there are trees growing next to a road, most of

Should I use an access key to indicate that the road

That is why in Africa we
consider access keys only to be used for legal
access restrictions, not physical. For that we use
other keys like smoothness, intermittent, seasonal

of the world a completely different approach of
highway tagging and that is why I would prefer to
see it changed or at least forked (not just a
"buried" continental variant), because what we have
now as the global OSM standard is not usable, is not
applicable in the rest, which is "the most" part of
the world.

this is easy, but what about motorcycle=no? Could depend on the jurisdiction/situation
