<p><font face="Verdana">I would think twice putting these
"institutions" under the military tag.<br>

<p><font face="Verdana">In many countries it is forbidden to map
military bases and that is often enforced very strict, you get
prosecuted and face a jail sentence if they find you making
pictures or being an enthusiastic OSM'er checking your ground
truth at or nearby those places. A very specific warning to our
fellow contributors is surely at it's place in those tagging
guidelines.<br>
<br>
I do think however there are many examples of military owned
institutions that provide services outside dedicated military
bases or in military bases, as Graeme is referring to something
similar ? But without the strict security or secrecy that
surrounds most of them. What first pops up in my mind are
military hospitals and these educational institutions.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">What I would suggest, to avoid problems as
described above, is to add specific attribution in
amenity=school and amenity=hospital to designate them as owned
and managed by the military, with all advantages that come with
it as we have very well established tagging in those amenities
to provide all kinds of details.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">We have military=training_area (1 227 uses),

<p><font face="Verdana">It's amazing to me that no one ever came up
with amenity=school school=military or amenity=hospital
hospital=military, as they are very common all over the world,
or people just use the operator=* tag to see it as sufficient to
refer to the military ?<br>

<pre class="moz-quote-pre" wrap="">Yeah, Graeme, it looks like we crossed posts with each other across the Pacific or Equator or something. Thanks for your clarification, it adds focus to what I said before.
In the USA, we have both college / university programs for this ("ROTC" or Reserve Officer Training Corps), and secondary / high school programs (sometimes down to the middle school level) that feed into the military called JROTC (the J for Junior).
Some countries will have this, some won't, but again, something broad enough for everybody that is well-designed initially can certainly be done (without wildly tacked-on ad hoc appendages to accommodate corner cases). Accommodating corner cases is best done "up front" during the early design phase, is all I'm saying. Where that's possible, it's good tagging design.

Oops! Missed a paragraph!
By Military Cadets, I mean the youth training groups, usually aimed at teenagers ~12-17, which are loosely linked to one of the branches of their Country's Armed Forces, but which are not considered as part of the military.
It doesn't refer to Officer Cadets, who are actually already enlisted in the armed forces, but are still going through basic Officer Training, before being posted to a unit.

While working on the proposal for {{Tag|military|bases}}, I also started wondering about how to map the training depots / buildings of the various Military Cadet units.
Have now put some thoughts together at <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Fizzie41/Military_Cadets">https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Fizzie41/Military_Cadets</a>, & would like to start initial discussions on the idea, before getting an actual proposal underway.
All thoughts & suggestions welcome, either here or on the talk page
Thanks
