<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">a few mintes ago, I wanted to tag a telephone box which doesn't contain a telephone anymore, but is used as a kind of exhibit. There I saw, that we do not even have a „real“ tag for tagging telephone boxes as themselves, have we?</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">When there is a telephone in such a box, often covered=booth or booth=* are used. But some people do not like or accept the tag covered=booth, and it's also not a real main tag. Covered=* is a subtag, booth=* seems to be too (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:booth was created in 2021, but if covered=booth would be the main tag, booth=* would not fit to pubic_bookcase:type=phone_box then, which is mentioned on the booth=* page.)</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So there is the question of how to tag especially those telephone boxes which do not contain a telephone anymore, where you could work with covered=*, but tagging boxes which are used otherwise.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Of cours,e for the most common usage, the public bookcases, we have public_bookcase:type=phone_box. But what is about other usages of phone boxes? I know one box which contins a defibrillator, and many which stand somewhere as kind of exhibits. Maybe they could be historic=memorial, but then I even do not have tagged the phone box as such.</span></span></p>

<p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">So don't you think there's missing a main tag for telepehone boxes, preferably completely independent from their actual usage (or even if they're unused)?</span></span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Because in my eyes, a telephone box stays a telephone box, even when its usage differs over the time. amenity=telephone is for the telephone itself and for its details, but I think maybe it would be worth to make a proposal either for man_made=telephone_box (analogous to amenity=telephone) or for man_made=phone_box (analogous to public_bookcase:type=phone_box). What do you think?</span></span></p></div></body></html>
