<div dir="ltr">On this one we have a great mix here in Italy, in the sense, that I have seen plenty of bicycle route sections using footways (i.e. cyclists have to dismount) and hiking-cycling routes that use bicycle-only paths, not to mention MTB routes that use paths that are in nature parks that explicitly forbid use of bicycles. And then hundreds of km of tracks along waterways that are closed to all vehicles (which include bicycles) and are part of long-distance cycle routes.</div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Thu, 12 Aug 2021 at 16:53, Dave F via Tagging <<a href="mailto:tagging@openstreetmap.org">tagging@openstreetmap.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">

*If* they're officially designated as different routes, ie different
names, signage symbols etc. I see no problem with them being mapped
as separate relations over the same ways, as that was the primary
purpose of route relations.<br>
<br>
But if the local authorities haven't given it a route designation
& it's just a path along which different transport modes are
permitted then I would tag the *ways* as a bridleway & add
foot/bicycle=designated?<br>

PS <br>
Are horses allowed along the full route of your example Google
streetview shows the Northern End as a cycleway.<br>
Is it signed along this road?

<div dir="ltr">I have tagged a lot of hiking routes, but I
sometimes encounter routes which are not only meant for hiking.

<div>This is a single route which is officially both for hiking,
cycling, and horseback riding. How do you properly tag this? </div>
<div>The only option I can see is to just make three different
routes. But this results in three relations for what is
technically just a single feature. It also makes it easy for
the route information (name, operator, etc) to get out of sync
if someone updates the info on one relation without checking
the other two relations.</div>
